Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has a first time project to provide half-height platform screen doors (HHPSD) for 36 of the existing elevated Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations.
This is the first such HHPSD retrofit project in Singapore and when completed, it will further enhance commuter safety at all elevated MRT stations. The HHPSD are 1.5 metres high and are installed along the edge of the station platform to create a barrier separating the trackside and the platform.
The project is expected to be completed by 2012. All associated work for the concerned stations will be done under the watch of ST Electronics, who has been awarded a US$77.3 million contract from the ministry. ST Electronics will design, supply, install and commission the HHPSD.
Another US$9.6 million contract is for Westinghouse Brake and Signal Holdings Limited to work with the signalling interface. The company is responsible for ensuring that the HHPSD are able to synchronise with the train doors.
The installation work will be conducted at the stations during non-revenue hours to minimize inconvenience to commuters.
