The leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) have announced plans to install additional closed circuit televisions (CCTV) in international schools in time for the beginning of term in June this year.
The cameras will be placed in international schools across the Philippine capital, particularly in Chinese schools, as a deterrent to kidnappers and other criminals who prey on school children.
According to Benjardi Mantele, chief directorial staff at PNP-NCRPO, the money needed to install more cameras will be shouldered by school owners and community leaders in their respective communities.
Mantele stressed that the cameras were not meant to conduct surveillance operations, but were an effective tool in detecting and preventing criminal activities in crime-prone areas.
