While the United States government begins a search for hackers to test its computer networks, Indonesia’s Defence Department has said that the threat of cyber attacks is not yet big enough to justify a similar initiative.
Deputy Chief of IT in Strategy Defence Department, Mr Asye Kusmayanto told Asian Security Review: ‘We do not have hackers here, not yet at least - although it is important to guard against the threat of cyber crime and the threat is rising. The best solution is to make an effort to upgrade our own department with the necessary skills instead.”
Asian Security Review also contacted the Thai government, but was told that its cyber crime policy is confidential. The defence departments of Malaysia and Singapore were unavailable for comment as ASR went to press.
